OAU loses Prof. of Medicine, Drama lecturer in 48 hours

OAU IFE: Two dons die in less than 48 hours

A professor of Medicine at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Prof. Jerome Elusiya has been killed

Elusiya was also a leader of the Christian Medical and Dental Association of Nigeria

He was attacked on Friday December 13 by unknown gunmen and killed. He was on his way back from Ambrose Alli University where he had gone to examine some students when the incident happened.

Just as the university was trying to come to terms with his murder, another lecturer, Dr. Victoria Oluwaremilekun slumped and died.

Oluwaremilekun was acting head of the department of dramatic arts before she died this morning, December 15.

She  directed the 44th convocation play of the university. She was part of the academic procession of the convocation on Saturday December 14

Elusiyan on the other hand was a consultant pediatrician & Chairman Medical Advisory Committee of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ife.

He was a pillar in Christian Medical and Dental Association of Nigeria. He helped to grow the chapters in Ife (as Chairman), Ido-Ekiti & the national body.

Just before the trip that led to his untimely death, he participated in the CMDA Ife Carol service. He also visited elders in Ife town.

His colleagues at the CMDA describe him as an example of selfless service, humility, love, compassion and grace.

In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the Nigeria Medical Association, Dr. Obitade Obimakinde, the body called on President Mohummadu Buhari to step up his commitment to the protection of lives and properties in the country.

It then urged the security agencies to help unearth the “Barbaric killing of our dear colleague and do all to forestall future occurrences.”

The Public Relations Officer of the University, Mr. Abiodun Olanrewaju in another statement said  the University VC,  Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede expressed shock at the death of these lecturers.

The statement further informed that the VC had directed that necessary papers be filed for their post mortem.
