Though a paediatric nurse, 35-year-old Oluwaseun Christiana Josh-Adefisan (nee Adekumola) is a born singer. She dances too.

She started singing at age six while in the church choir. When she was 20, she stepped up; taking her songs beyond the church wall to functions like weddings, birthday parties, and funeral receptions. She has been using her music to spread the good news of Jesus and gladden the hearts of many.

Known as Praise Magnate, she attended St. Kizito’s Primary School and Iju Grammar School, Iju, Lagos respectively before she proceeded to Ogun State School of Nursing. She then moved to The School of Post Basic Nursing, University of Benin Teaching Hospital where she studied Paediatric Nursing.

Talking about her music career, the versatile music minister said. “I can say music is my calling. I love singing and dancing a lot. I have a passion for singing and I always enjoy myself while singing.

“To me, praising and worshipping God is fulfilling my divine destiny. I have not just delved into music. I have been performing at church programs, birthday parties, funeral receptions, wedding and naming ceremonies for over 15 years now. The Holy Spirit has enabled me to use songs to minister healing and deliverance to people. I am enjoying what I’m doing for the Lord. My goal is that souls will be won to God.”

Praise Magnate, who hails from Imeri, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State explained that she had planned to make her album debut in 2020 but the COVID-19 pandemic aborted the plan. She has now set a new date for the dedication.

In her words, “I will be dedicating my maiden album, ‘Iranlowo Nla’ (Great Help) on Saturday, March 20, 2021, after the plan was halted by the pandemic last year. I decided to prayerfully do it as a divine mandate and a way of fulfilling my divine purpose in 2019 when I recorded my first album, titled, “Iranlowo Nla”. I wanted to launch it in 2020 but the COVID-19 pandemic altered the plan.”

“God also instructed me to raise an ‘Altar of Praise’ for Him (The Voice of Thanksgiving Concert). By God’s grace, the album will be dedicated with the maiden edition of the concert.” She added.

Asked what inspired the song, ‘Iranlowo Nla’, the first and only female child in the family of seven declared, “I received the song through divine inspiration. All the six tracks in the album including Oni Majemu Nla, I Will Sing of Your Mercies, Iranlowo Nla, Jesu E Tobi, Mi O Se Ni Jo, and Siwe Iranti Kan Mi were received by divine inspiration.

“I received all the songs I have recorded or wrote down through the Holy Spirit while praying. God gave me all the songs and I am happy about that. The Holy Ghost has always been my source of inspiration. I have some of my videos on YouTube and Iranlowo Nla is on Audiomack. Just search for me on my social media handles Instagram-Praise Magnate, YouTube-Praise Magnate, and Facebook-Christiana Josh-Adefisan. By His grace, all my songs will be online after my dedication on March 20.”

Praise Magnate: Origin of the name

The Lagos-born gospel artiste, who currently works as a Paediatric Nurse in the Children Emergency Department of Private Missionary Teaching Hospital in Ogun State, describes the gospel music industry as a sector you can make a living from when God calls you noting that she may quit her job any time as the Lord leads. She, however, disclosed that “being in music ministry does not stop you from doing other things as career or business as you deem fit”.

While explaining how she got the sobriquet, ‘Praise Magnate’ which is gradually becoming a household name, she confessed, “Praise Magnate is a name given to me by my husband on divine order some years back. Magnate means someone that is rich, powerful, and successful.

“He said it is the name the Lord revealed to him. I really appreciate my husband, the Presiding Minister of Dominion International Christian Center at Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, Pastor Joseph Josh-Adefisan for his encouragement.

“He has always sacrificed whatever he has to ensure that my dream comes true. He has been very supportive in every facet of life.

He understands the passion of song’s ministration. He gives me support both morally and financially. In fact, he is my motivating factor. Praise Magnate is going to the nations of the world by the help of God and the power of Holy Spirit, bringing down the healing power of God through the instrumentation of worship and praise.”

Praise Magnate sincerely affirmed that there is nothing you would do in this life without its own challenges; she then advised that we should be prayerfully prepared to overcome any challenge we may encounter in our respective endeavours.

“There is nothing you want to do in life that does not have its own challenge. Be it marriage, career, or ministry. So, you have to be prayerfully prepared to scale through whether physically, spiritually, or financially. Singing (gospel music) is a calling that has a lot of challenges.

“I know the devil will raise his ugly head but once the Lord is involved victory is ascertained. My advice to the gospel singers is to thrive to stay on the course God has called them into. They will surely sing praises to the Lord at the end.” She advised.
