Lekki shootings: UK based Nigerian prof. campaigns for politicians’ bank account, passport be frozen

by Church Times

A United Kingdom-based controversial Nigerian professor, Chris Imafidon has said he would prevail on the international community to ensure that the businesses, bank accounts, and passports of politicians in the UK are frozen until the truth is clear about the shootings that happened on Tuesday, October 20 in Lekki, Lagos.

Imafidon made this known in a zoom session on October 23 involving Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Dr. Pat Utomi, Dr. Isuwa Dogo Dr. Usman Bugaje, and Chief Femi Fani Kayode.

Imafidon who is an adviser to the UK government said he could not go to his class to teach the following morning because of the shock of the shooting saying he had to order his students to meet him in the British parliament.

He said, “What I saw moved me. I could not take my students to class the next morning I had to tell them to meet me in the parliament. I can’t stay in the UK while my fatherland is vandalised. This is the post-George Floyd era. This is a new generation. We marched to the PM residence and we informed the Prime Minister of what happened.”

He said it is criminal to use live ammunition on unarmed youth adding, “We have viable videos and pictures. We don’t need a new agenda by the way. What the young people are asking for are basics, good roads, hospitals, and schools. That is not rocket science.”

He condemned those who are reading ethnic meaning to the riots and looting that followed the shooting saying, “The world does recognise your little tribal distraction. They are showing photographs of those looting and destroying properties and the PM said they are looters and I said they are not looters but hungry men. Real looters loot the treasury.”

Imafidon said they could not have shot live bullets on unarmed youth and come around to say that nobody got killed warning that the world had become a global village including Nigeria”

The UK professor who claimed he teaches informatics said the present generation has more powerful tools in their hands which is the mobile phone than the bullets.

He said if the government understands the power of mobile phones, it will take the guns from the hands of soldiers and give them phones.

“These children are going to change Nigeria and a new Nigeria will emerge. Wisdom is bigger than wealth. None of you understand the power of the mobile phone. I teach informatics. If you know the power of the mobile phone you will take the gun from soldiers and give them the phone.

“Until we hear the truth, businesses, bank account and passports of politicians who have links with the UK will be frozen. I am going to continue to push that until the truth about the shootings come out,” he said with a lot of fury

There was a publication by Punch newspapers where the Oxford University denied him..there is yet to be a something to the contrary. We still owe him in high regard nevertheless. Thanks
