Gomba Oyor first to live beyond 50 from father’s line…Don’t worry for him says Wale Oke

by Church Times

President of Sword of the Spirit Ministries and Presiding Overseer of Christ Life Church, Bishop Wale Oke has admonished family and friends not to worry for Dr. Gomba Oyor who died recently after a brief illness.

He was the first person that would live beyond 50 years from his father’s line according to the family. He died at 61 on August 7, 2020

Oyor was the founder of God Will Do It Ministry. He was a well-known preacher of the gospel and a deliverance minister who touched many lives with his life-changing and impactful sermons.

Bishop Oke who was the guest speaker at his funeral today August 4 however told family, friends and members of the ministry of the late cleric not worry for him stating that he is in a better place and resting with the Lord.

Oke said life is not determined by its duration but its donation noting that Dr. Oyor gave a substantial part of his life to the cause of the gospel and the advancement of humanity.

He said when Oyor’s wife asked him to come and preach at the funeral, he had to leave every other thing to honour the memory of the late preacher. “As you all know, this week is a very busy one for me. We are in the midst of our 38th Holy Ghost convention. And we are the very critical moment of the convention. When mama called me and said I am to speak at the funeral, I had to set aside every other thing so I can salute this man of honour. Dr. Oyor was a man who impacted lives and who God used tremendously to liberate souls.

Talking to members of the ministry of the late preacher, Bishop Oke said, “God just used him to set up the ministry. There is more work to be done. The Lord will give you the grace to do more and make more impact than he did. Jesus lived for only 33 and half years but today over 4 billion people are Christians because of the impact he made while on earth. The leader of God Will Do it Ministry has gone to glory. I can assure you that this ministry will blossom.”

He stressed further that people should not worry for him because he is already with the Lord. He said “for Oyor, his death is better than the day he was born. Don’t worry about Oyor. He lived the life of Christ with a passion. He was genuinely born again. He was a preacher. He was a man of holiness and purity. He has joined the cloud of witnesses.

“But for those who have not experienced the saving grace of Jesus, their death will be worse. So I enjoin those who have not surrendered to Jesus to do so before it is too late.”

Earlier in his message, Oke recalled that Oyor’s father died when he was 50 but that God gave Oyor the grace to cross 50 and to cross 60. He, however, emphasized that life is not measured by its duration but its donation. “We pray to live long. But what matters most is the impact we make while living.”

Gomba Oyor: What the family wrote about him

Gomba Fortune Oyor was born on July 18th, 1959 in Ogale,  Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria to late Mr. Michael Ngei Oyor and Late Mrs Dorathy Ada Oyor. He was the third of seven children (six boys and one girl).

He was the first to clock 50 years old in the family history. His grandfather, as he was told, died very young; and his own father while he was still in primary school. His eldest brother fared better and died at age 43, and his immediate elder brother died at 46. But in his own case, God kept His promise of long life and made him see 50 years and 60 years.

He believed that if Jesus tarries, he would see many more decades, and even make it to 120 years, in Jesus Christ name. He attended Ogle Primary School, Ogale, Eleme; and Stella  Marris College, Harbour Road, Port Harcourt. He obtained a Diploma and a Bachelor of Science degree in Secretarial Administration from River State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.  He also attended several trainings and seminars and obtained a certificate from

The Haggai Institute, Singapore, South East Asia.

Having done his youth service in Ibadan, he decided to further his tertiary education at the University of Ibadan where he was awarded Masters and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in community development.

He was born into an Anglican family but got born again on May 5th, 1979 during a fellowship of the Scripture Union. He fellowshipped with the Assemblies of God Church, Ogale, Eleme for five months before moving to the Baptist Church Ogale, Eleme in November 1979. Rising rapidly in faith, he held many leadership positions in his seven years at the local Baptist church before becoming Youth Director of the whole Ogoni Association of the Nigerian Baptist Convention.

He was an active member of Christian Fellowship Deliverance Ministry, Alodde, Eleme and later became its President for eight years, handing over in 1989 to Rev Moses Olaka Katey (now Archbishop, overseeing other bishops of the church).

On campus, Rivers State University of Technology and Science, Port Harcourt, Dr Oyor started the Students Christian Movement (SCM) of Nigeria from scratch and was founding president from 1982 to 1987. When he led at graduation, the Movement had over 100 members on its membership list. To God’s glory, the Fellowship is still flourishing till date.

On September 7th, 1991, he got married to Rev Patience and their marriage is blessed with four sons (Barrister Godswill, Barrister Lawrence, Godspower and Wisdom). Together with his wife, Rev Patience Oyor, he birthed God-Will-Do-It Ministries.

That baby has blossomed from a week-day(s) ministrations into a church, with branches in and outside Ibadan (Lagos and Abuja), and now it runs different ministries. Since November 1979 when he first preached in a church (Baptist Church, Ogale) he received the grace of God to lead multitude to Jesus as he preached in churches and at crusades. The great move of God in the miraculous was a regular occurrence flourishing till date. It is not surprising therefore that he served at the SCM (an affiliate of World Student Christian Fellowship) headquarters in Ibadan for his national service. He was made the Travelling Secretary from 1987 to 1988, and thereafter the National Secretary (1988 to 1992), National Secretary, National President and now National Trustee.

The School of Deliverance and Healing (SODAH) is 27 years old (with thousands of graduates from both the Regular and the Crash Programmes). The annual Spouses for Single and Children for the Childless Conference (SS & CCC) is also 27 years with incredible testimonies of God’s faithfulness.

In addition to, and in support of, his ministry, he wrote 38 books that bring deliverance to people across the world and blessing the body of Christ. The gospel gave him the opportunity to travel the world, preaching Jesus in villages, towns, cities and nations. To Him alone be all the glory.

He sat on several boards, including Development Associates International (DAI) with headquarters in the USA. He was an executive member of Unity Ministers Forum, Ibadan; executive member of Movement for African National Initiative (MANI); and a member of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria
