It’s God’s church, nothing like my wife and I ministry- Bishop Oyedepo

by Church Times

Founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo has said it is unbiblical for church leaders to claim ownership of their churches saying “it’s God’s church” not theirs.

Oyedepo made the declaration in a message today August 9 during the online service of the ministry.

He said, “There is nothing like my wife and I ministry. There is no such thing in the Bible. It’s God’s church, not our church. It is wrong to claim ownership of God’s church”

Making further clarification, he said “not one single thing that belongs to God should be named after me. Covenant University should never be named after me after I am long gone. The ancient of days owns it, not me. So let nobody be zealous to go and put my name on it.”

Oyedepo who preached on how to get divine direction from God said the reason why many pastors struggle with ministry is that they appropriate the church of God.

His words, “One of the things I learnt early in ministry is that it is God’s church and not my church. He said I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail. It is His church, not mine. If it is your church, you will build it by yourself. But if it is God’s church, he will build it. You will never hear me say my church. For some people, it’s their church where they make weekly sales and go to pray.”

Talking on how to hear from God, he said, “We are guided through the revelation of God’s word. It is God’s surest guide for his people. The seed is the word of God. Keeping sowing the seed of God’s word. Any time you get to the word, you’re in search of guidance. God taught us to go by the word and we go by it. Any time God leads he provides supernatural insight for his people.”

Oyedepo also spoke on the Church’s covenant day of exemption declaring that Children of God are always shielded from the evils around them if they lay hold to their confession.

Citing the example of the children of Israel while they were in the land of captivity in Egypt, he said, “When you become born again, God puts you in a class of your own. We are not permitted to suffer what the world around us suffer”

Apart from being born again, he said, any believer who wants to be exempted from the evil around him must develop a strong exemption mentality and hold fast to the confession of their faith.

Quoting from copiously from the Bible he said supporting the poor and helping the needy are necessary if one wants to be exempted from the evil around.

Bishop Oyedepo should explain to us what he meant by David Oyedepo Ministries International. I have seen that on many of his church publications. He should not confuse us
